"Awesome day out to Amed. Snorkelling was insanely good. Crystal clear water, plenty to see! Great guide showing us the best spots to see turtles and fish. Putu was our driver today, he was an incredible guy, super happy and safe for the long trip from Nusa Dua and back. Would pick him for another day out in a heartbeat. 5 stars plus."

What Our Guests Say
"Good activity. The most impressive spot was the coral reef then turtle beach."
"Amazing experince! My partner and I were the only two on the boat so although it was tiny - a small, authentic wooden fishing boat - it was perfect. Our guide found the best snorkelling spots and took amazing photos and videos for us. Would definitely recommend adding the GoPro to your booking. Communication and organisation was perfect. The fish - just WOW! The water was so clear and abundant with fish. Only disappointment was viability at the Japanese shipwreck- the water was murky and low visibility so we only snorkelled here for 10mins. Would definitely recommend this trip."
"We chose the option with transfer from Ubud. Our Driver Wayan was exceptional! Easy to talk to, gave us a lot of information about life in Bali and their customs. The snorkeling itself was great. The boat crew was knowledgeable and helpful. We snorkelled at 4 spots and managed to see turtles AND dolphins! One note: the facilities are not the greatest so be prepared. The Driver took us to a great lunch spot where we had a lovely meal. I highly recommend this activity and I wouldnt think twice to do this again :)"

"Our driver and guide Nyoman was great, the water activities were very fun, highly recommend renting a gopro if you want next level footage from Karma, the snorkeling guide! We did the full day tour which also included Tirta Gangga and Virgin Beach, both strongly recommended if you haven’t been yet. Nyoman was patient and kind when we wanted extra time to take some photos, offering to take some for us and also giving us space if he felt we needed some alone time. He also was attentive to provide chill water in the very hot day, it was an absolute worthwhile experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

"Both of our guides made the trip! Swam with turtles at the first place we stopped at, highly recommended."
"I had 3 wonderful hours of snorkling and a lot of beautiful videos in the end. Thank you so much."
"It was a wonderful experience! Our driver picked us up from our villa on time. Then we drove for almost three hours to the snorkeling point, and the driver Wayan Sue was so friendly. He got us a fresh coconut and respond to every question we had.The long drive went by really quickly, because of his great nature. Once we arrived, we got our equipment and something to drink. We went snorkeling at four different locations. We were filmed with a GoPro and saw lots of sea turtles. A dream of mine came true. The pictures and videos were sent to us to download on Google Drive. All in all, a fantastic experience with lots of nice people. We would do it again!"
"Absolutely loved this trip, Putu Adi was such a lovely man, and even after driving for over 12 hours he had such good a great attitude. We went to Ahmed and saw a few turtles, lion fish and the temples and shipwreck, it was all very beautiful. Putu even took us to a coffee tasting in the local village which was unexpectedly a highlight of the trip. Then he took us through his own village in the countryside. Very happy, good value for money. 🤍"

"Amazing experience, all staff were really friendly and helpful, we included the go-pro and the coffee tasting and it was totally worth it. Take cash, you'll want to tip"

"Amazing! Absolutely loved it!!!"

"Ich habe mich im gesamten Verlauf sicher und in guten Händen gefüllt. Vielen Dank an den Guide und den Bootsfahrer. Alle angekündigten Spots wurden besucht und ich hatte genug Zeit für die Erkundung an jedem Spot. Einzig würde ich meine eigene Tauchmaske mit Schnorchel, die mir besser passt mitnehmen. Insgesamt eine sehr schöne Erfahrung."

Everything you need to know about snorkeling at Amed.
The underwater temple is a collection of Hindu shrine structures intentionally placed on the seabed at Jemeluk Bay as an artificial reef project. The stone statues and temple gates sit at 5–10 meters depth, attracting coral growth and marine life. Snorkelers can see the tops of the structures from the surface in clear conditions.
The Japanese shipwreck sits at around 6–12 meters depth, with the upper sections visible from about 3–5 meters below the surface. It's a small patrol boat from World War II, now heavily encrusted with coral and home to schools of tropical fish. Snorkelers can see the wreck clearly from above on calm days with good visibility.
Amed is a 2–3 hour drive from Kuta, Seminyak, or Sanur, depending on traffic. The route follows the east coast past Candidasa and Tirta Gangga. Most guided tours like the Underwater Temple Snorkeling tour ($40, ID 914585) include hotel pickup and the drive as part of a full-day package.
Turtle Point in Amed is a known feeding ground for green sea turtles, and sightings on morning snorkeling sessions run at roughly 70–80%. Turtles graze on sea grass in the shallows and are accustomed to snorkelers. Early morning visits (before 10 AM) offer the best chances, as turtles tend to retreat to deeper water later in the day.
Currents in Amed vary by site. Jemeluk Bay and Lipah Bay are sheltered and generally calm, suitable for intermediate snorkelers. The Japanese shipwreck area can have mild drift currents that your guide will brief you on. The Underwater Temple tour notes that participants should be confident swimmers, so basic ocean comfort is expected.
Amed works well for both. Snorkelers can see the Japanese shipwreck, turtles at Turtle Point, and the top of the underwater temple from the surface. Divers get closer access to the temple structures and deeper reef walls. If you only snorkel, you'll still see the majority of marine life — Amed's reefs start very shallow at 1–3 meters.
April to November offers the best visibility (15–25 meters) and calmest seas. July through October is peak season with the flattest water. The wet season (December–March) can bring reduced visibility and occasional swell, but Amed's sheltered bays remain snorkelable most days year-round.
Jemeluk Bay and Lipah Bay are suitable for beginners — the water is calm, the entry is gradual, and coral starts in chest-deep water. The Japanese shipwreck and underwater temple spots require more confidence due to depth and mild currents. Tour guides provide life jackets and stay with the group throughout.
